What Causes Mesenteric Adenitis?
The most common cause is a viral or bacterial infection in the intestines. When an infection in the intestines occur, the lymph nodes, which are a part of the body’s immune system, become inflamed as they try and keep an infection from worsening and spreading to the rest of the body.
Adenitis symptoms aren’t usually causes for serious concern, as the condition typically goes away on its own in between one to four weeks. We’ve listed its most common symptoms below.
Common Mesenteric Adenitis Symptoms
- Pain in the abdomen, often on the lower right side
- Abdominal tenderness
- Fever
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
How Is Mesenteric Adenitis Diagnosed?
Although mesenteric adenitis is most common among teens and children, adults can get it, too. Visit our AFC center if you or your child exhibits any of the symptoms listed above. One of our medical professionals will then do a physical examination and gather medical history to learn about any previous medical issues. Lab work will likely be next, as blood tests can reveal the presence or lack thereof of a viral or bacterial infection. Lastly, imaging tests could also be used to rule out appendicitis.
