Our team at AFC Urgent Care Knoxville wants you make a commitment each and every day to live a healthier lifestyle. Are you ready to make that commitment?

Make a Commitment to Good Habits

The first step in creating healthier habits is to realize that it’s a lifestyle change—not just something to do for the moment. Focus on not just the destination but the journey to get to your destination. For example, if you want to lose a certain amount of weight by summer, don’t focus on the number. Instead, focus on cleaning up your diet by eating more fruits, vegetables and lean protein, and fewer processed foods, while also adding regular exercise into your routine.

You also want to note the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. Experts recommend that adults get between seven and nine hours of sleep each night. However, it is also important to note that it’s quality over quantity. Tossing and turning for 10 hours is not as good as getting a deep, good sleep for six hours. Talk with your physician to see if you could benefit from a sleep study to ensure you’re getting the sleep you need every night.

Finally, make it easy on yourself. Chances are, throughout the day, you’re going to become hungry at some point. Plan ahead, so you don’t have to grab fast food on the go or a snack from the vending machine. Pack healthy, easy-to-eat snacks like nuts, fruit or cheese. Instead of going out for a calorie-filled lunch with friends, eat a quick, healthy lunch and then go for a 30-minute walk outside to gain an energy boost for the rest of the day.

Healthy habits can fit easily into your life. You just have to find the ways that work best for you.
