Survive Allergy Season We’ve waited what feels like years for warmer weather to finally appear. But once it does, we’ll have the lovely allergy season rearing its ugly head. That doesn’t mean you’re stuck inside, though. Let’s take a look at some ways you can be sure to survive the allergy season this spring. First, you want to talk to one of our knowledgeable physicians who can help determine what medications might help you find relief from your symptoms. For instance, while an oral antihistamine might work best for you, an antihistamine in a nasal spray form might be better for a loved one. While there are OTC options, if your allergies are severe, your doctor may recommend a prescription medication. Second, if you want to try and skip taking allergy medications, you can try a saline nasal rinse like a neti pot to help soothe nasal membranes or gargling with salt water to help ease a scratchy throat to find relief the natural way. Third, you want to check out the local pollen count on a regular basis to note when higher pollen count days are expected. That way you can plan out the best days to run errands, garden or exercise outdoors, as well as the days you should probably remain inside. Finally, there are things you can do at home to help ease allergy symptoms this spring, too. For instance, keep the windows and doors closed as much as possible so that you are not allowing the pollen particles to fly in and wreak havoc. Also, as soon as you come home for the day, take your shoes off outside and take a shower. Washing the pollen off your hair and body, as well as changing your clothes, can help prevent outdoor allergens from making their way inside.
